Adults Who Lost a Parent in Childhood

Over the years of working with a number of adults who have lost a parent in childhood, we have noticed a number of common factors.  Often we see a sense of being alone in the world, difficulties in developing and maintaining intimate relationships and frequently we have noticed dissociative qualities in relationships.  Often there is a sense of foreboding or a lack of trust.  We have also noticed behaviors (often apparently unconsciously performed) that appear likely to damage or destroy the person’s relationship(s) with those people most important to them.

This group will be a place to explore these difficulties, recognize (unconscious) fears and beliefs and begin the process of healing and working-through.

Participation is intended to be of longer term.  Because of the nature of this work, we are interested in participants who are willing to make the commitment to themselves and to the group.  Tentative start date is in December/January, however, that will depend on finding participants who seem likely to work well together.
